Ernest Hemingway and bar culture are deeply intertwined, both in his personal life and in his writing. In the 1920s, Hemingway lived in cities with vibrant bar scenes, namely Paris, Pamplona and Havana. He was known to enjoy several drinks, but his favorite was likely the daiquiri. He was particularly fond of a specific variation known as the “Papa Doble” or “Hemingway Daiquiri”, which he popularized at the El Floridita bar in Havana, Cuba.
Hemingway also loved champagne. He drank champagne not just as a luxury, but as one of life’s pleasures — especially when enjoying the company of women. For him, champagne wasn’t just a drink; it was a matter of style. The Hemingway Daiquiri, like champagne at the time, was served in a coupe glass.
Our symbol is an upside-down coupe glass. It’s an unusual position; only a bartender holds it that way. The original logo featured a vintage engraving of a bartender’s hand. Today, we use a simplified version with a glass without a hand.
